Have you ever noticed an icon when a candle is placed in front of it? The magical illumination of the gold in the saint’s halo or the gold trim on the garments, or perhaps the other-worldly look in the eyes and features of the faces depicted therein? It reminds me of what we tell our children, “You are what you eat.” What goes into our body is reflected in our outward appearance… whether we get enough sleep… or drink enough water throughout the day… whether we feast on beauty or goodness, or something less. The icons luminescent glow is the fruit of the life it depicts. When we see the sunset at the end of the day, its color and warmth capture not just one moment, but rather the reflection of its travel around the entire earth. When we travel through this season of the Nativity, let our lives reflect not just this Christmas Season, but the entirety of our experiences. Let us contemplate more fully what precisely is the message of Christ’s incarnation and how His entry into the world shapes not only today, but all of time and all of humanity.

John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
